The Hamburg City Man triathlon is set to take place on July 17th and 18th and it's a great excuse to go on an active tour of the city, even if you're not much of an athlete.
One of the best things about the event is that it's free to enter, which is a real bonus in my opinion. Around 5,000 people take part in it and there are more than a quarter of a million visitors, which just shows how popular the place gets. That many people surely can't be wrong about how good it is!
There is a men's race, as well as a women's one and even the Hamburg City Kids Triathlon, but this part takes place slightly earlier on June 24th and 25th with 4,200 children already signed up.
The Hamburg event began in 2002 and enables athletes to swim in the river Alster, cycle through the city centre streets and end up in front of the historic Hamburg Town Hall. This all culminates into making the occasion a "unique experience for every athlete", according to the organisers.
Being able to swim in the river Alster really would be a treat and a great honour. It's something that I always think about whenever thoughts of Hamburg pop into my head so I would definitely love to get involved.
