Called Ryanair Golf Direct, the company has celebrated its launch by offering up to 50 per cent off at some of the best courses in Europe, including at a few destinations within the Spanish city of Girona – around an hour away from some cheap Barcelona hostels.
Four golf courses are located around this city, the Emporda Golf Club, Golf Girona, Golf D Aro, and Golf Platja de Pals, all offering fans of the sport 18 holes to indulge until their heart is content.
The Golf Girona destination is a particular highlight, with its designer, FG Hawtree, describing it as "one of [his] finest creations", which is further helped in its aesthetic appeal by the fact that it is the only course in the country to be seeded in Penncross grass, thus offering a truly unique experience.
Ryanair's director of commercial revenue, Sinead Finn, believes the new club will aid golfing fans who are looking for more to do after booking a cheap hostel in Barcelona, especially after the recent success of the European team in their thrilling 14.5 to 13.5 victory over the US in this year's Ryder Cup, which took part in South Wales during the first weekend of October.
Ms Finn explained: "Ryanair's exclusive partnership with Golf Away International combines Ryanair's lowest fares with access to some of Europe's best golf courses where passengers will benefit from savings of up to 50 per cent off green fees."
