No matter where you go in the country, there are usually festivities of some kind to experience - making it a great time to pay a visit. Combine the summer sun with fireworks, parades, carnivals and a terrific atmosphere and it's an experience like no other.
And the best place to take it all in could well be Albany, the capital city of the state of New York. Those staying in the hostels in the area in the next couple of weeks will be able to see all sorts of celebrations taking place, including a range of concerts.
But of course it's fireworks that we all want to see and it's fireworks you'll get at the Empire State Plaza, with free admission to the event organised by Price Chopper Supermarkets.
If you're intrigued by the history of it all (the holiday commemorates the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776), then why not check out the Schuyler Mansion State historic site? There you can find a colonial festival featuring 18th-century music and games, with re-enactors playing fifes and drums.
Bethlehem Town Hall is also staging a reading of the declaration itself, but personally I would opt for the fun, games and fireworks! If you're in New York City, meanwhile, then be sure to take in the famous Macy's fireworks display - as it is said to be one of the most spectacular in the world.
