Get the blue bus in Stockholm
If you're resting your head in a hostel in Stockholm at the moment and would like to see the city without spending too much money, it could definitely be a good idea to avoid all the tourist buses that are offering to take you on a sightseeing tour. Instead, consider hopping aboard one of the blue buses that can be found traversing the streets as these are a lot cheaper and, for those who aren't afraid of talking to strangers, can possibly also help you make some new foreign friends.

If you're up for the challenge, flag down any of the numbers one, two, three or four as they pass you as these cover the majority of the city centre and Stockholm Public Transport (SL) tickets can be used on them, cards that - the SL website noted - are always more cost effective than purchasing a travel pass once on the bus.

The magic of this mode of transportation was brought to my attention by the Guardian newspaper, which stated that - unlike official tours of the city - there are no actual tour guides, but this just means that you're more likely to make a new acquaintance as, if you see something of interest while heading down the road, you can always question the locals on the bus to find out more about it. Who knows, you might even make a friend for life, which is, after all, one of the best things about going to new places.
