I know what you're thinking. Comics? But the industry is absolutely massive over there, inescapable really, and for that reason alone you should try and soak up a little anime culture if you can. Never mind the fact that there's an intensely rich heritage that lies behind manga as it's known today - dating all the way back to the days of the Samurai and giga, paintings on scrolls of animals and people first seen in the 1100s.
The tour includes a host of wondrous activities. For your readies, you'll get to visit the Ghibli Museum which was designed by Spirited Away genius Hayao Miyazaki and be taken to Harajuku where you'll see some of the most amazingly dressed people ever - almost as if they're out of a comic themselves. If that doesn't float your boat, you can head up to Mount Fuji and visit the fantastic resort of Hakone. And even better, you get to go back to Tokyo on the Bullet Train, which sounds pretty cool.
If after all that's on offer you've still got the Japan bug, a week of sightseeing is provided by the tour company, taking you all over to places like Kyoto, Miyajima and Himeji Castle in Osaka - apparently one of Japan's most impressive buildings. So pack up your troubles in your old kit bag and smile, smile, smile all the way to a Japanese hostel. I recommend the JGH Tokyo because it's cheap and cheerful and in a great location. I'll see you there, folks!
