Even if debauchery isn't quite your thing, it certainly looks like a fun event for any backpackers on cheap travel holidays in the area to check out, with colourful costumes the order of the day. Festivities kick off with Goombay on the 23rd, a street party offering the "tastes, sights and sounds of the Caribbean".
There's a Vampire's Ball the following evening, while October 27th sees the Finnegan's Wake Green Party encourage all revellers to wear green to the "ultimate" celebration of all things Irish.
Of course, the daily events will all build up to Halloween and culminate with the Captain Morgan Fantasy Fest Parade down Duval Street on October 31st, before everything winds down the following day. As if to prove this is no ordinary festival, this year's grand marshal will be The Girls Next Door star and three-time Playboy cover model Bridget Marquardt, who executive director Linda O'Brien describes as a "smart, down to earth lady [who] loves Halloween".
If you want to mark the occasion but are backpacking in Mexico, you may be able to enjoy the traditional Day of the Dead, which combines music, dancing and fireworks with remembrance of loved ones who have died.
