Hang ten dude
Luckily for all those surfers who don't like leaving their boards at home, JetBlue Airways - the hometown airline of New York - is offering free transportation of all boards on flights from the city's JFK Airport to Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic. This philanthropy is all down to the second annual New York Surf Film Festival - which JetBlue Airways is sponsoring again - and means that sea worshippers can save a fairly hefty $50 (£31.45) each way, leaving plenty left over for beer, food and hostels.
If you want to take advantage of this generous offer, trips (beginning in New York) must be booked for travel between September 25th and February 7th 2010, so get your skates on so you don't miss out. If you can't fly during those dates, don't worry - you might have to pay to get your board on the plane, but JetBlue provides a year-round service to surfing destinations such as Costa Rica, Barbados and Santiago.
Unfortunately, you're a bit late for attending the film festival as the three-day event ended yesterday (September 27th), but that's ok because I'm sure it'll be back again next year. And if it's not, head to the website because you can get t-shirts and DVDs at a very reasonable price.
