Adequate insurance is, unsurprisingly, near the top of the list. Even if you're all about the cheap travel, it definitely makes sense to be prepared. If you jetset a lot, Priority Pass people recommend that you get an annual policy, as long as you price compare first. Following that, they advise you to consider any medication you might need - which can easily slip your mind if you've not been stranded in a foreign country with no access to a first aid kit before. A spare pair of glasses is essential as well, apparently, unless you're happy to bumble about in a bit of a haze for the entirety of your holiday.
Getting over jetlag is a tricky one as there are many different cures for the problem - the most common advice proffered by Priority Pass customers is to wind your watch to your destination's timezone and start acting as if that actually is the time.
Finally - and perhaps the most important for all us backpacking braves - save cash abroad by checking your bank's policies before you go. They might charge for overseas usage or employ anti-fraud techniques which mean you can't use your card at all. Imagine the horror!
Hope that's been of some help.
