Its official - backpacking can help your career
I've been saying it for years and now finally, people are starting to take heed! Backpacking around the world and staying in hostels is indeed a viable way to spend your time. It can, in fact, actually help your career path and provide you with a raft of skills that you couldn't get anywhere else, making you stand out from the crowd when you do decide to head back into the rat-race. At least that's what one expert in the travel industry is saying now and I'm glad to have someone else fighting in my corner, that's for sure.

Tom Griffiths of gapyear.com - a business set up some 12 years ago - has gone on record as saying that, given the seemingly never-ending recession, it looks better on your CV to have gone overseas and done something after having been made redundant than to sit around at home and bemoan the life of the unemployed. Hell yeah, it is! I say, head off for some cheap travel while you can.

Mr Griffiths had this to say: "Technically, you can live in Thailand for £5 a day. Thailand seems to be filling up with a number of these young professionals who find it's actually cheaper to be unemployed and to live in south-east Asia." So there you have it. Confirming what I've always known - that Thailand is the mecca for all cheap backpacker travel. You don't need a pot-load of cold, hard cash in order to live the life of a jetsetter. It truly can be for everyone.
