However, an important thing to remember about the sampling of other cultures is to observe rules and customs. The consequences of failing to do so can range from dirty looks to confrontations and even to trouble with the law - so it really is something to keep at the forefront of your mind!
Obviously I don't want to alarm anyone and let me reassure you by saying that I've found people to generally be very welcoming of tourists while on my travels.
But Bob Atkinson, travel expert at travelsupermarket.com, has highlighted the need to observe local regulations wherever you go. The price comparison site conducted a survey that revealed one-third of Brits are more likely to take risks and do things they wouldn't at home while they are abroad.
"Always consider what the local customs and traditions are in the places that you are going to, to make sure you don't fall foul of anything. That could be everything from topless bathing through to drinking in the street," he said.
Far from trying to spoil anyone's fun, Mr Atkinson is of course trying to ensure that everyone remembers their holiday for the right reasons. So the advice is pretty simple - do your research before heading anywhere new so you know what to expect, then enjoy experiencing other cultures without the fear of offending anyone!
