And having a New York hostel to crash out in after carrying out the exercise and sightseeing combo might be ideal.
According to Claire Prentice, writing for the Independent, people can see an array of birds on a two-wheeled expedition - which takes them through Brooklyn and Sheepshead Bay to Jamaica Bay - run by Gabriel Willow.
New York City Audubon's Biking and Birding Tours covers around 15 miles and sights should include water fowl and herons, while those lucky enough might even spot a white pelican.
Mr Willow added: "It's a great eco-friendly way to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy nature.
"It's a great day out and a unique way to experience the non-human inhabitants of the city."
But those who are feeling the effects when they finish the trail might like to get back to their hostel in New York as soon as possible by jumping on the train.
And in October visitors can check out an array of notable sights on the tour such as Central Park at Columbus Circle, as well as Washington Bridge, in an attempt to spot vultures, hawks and falcons.
This type of expedition fits in with advice from Fiona Duncan, who recently penned a piece for the Daily Telegraph that advised people to always be on the move in the Big Apple.
