Writing for Chicago Flame, Mike Persley has bigged up the Big Apple, not that that's strictly necessary. New York's fame generally precedes it but, as Mr Persley puts it, "New York is New York, no matter what time of the year". He says that some of the perks of heading to the town for a bit of festive cheer include being able to walk into the museums without having to stand around in a giant queue for hours, or do some skating at Rockefeller Centre.
"There's a million things to do in the city that never sleeps," he said. "Accomplishing just a few is well worth it."
But if you're looking for an experience that's a little off the beaten track, a trip to Hell's Kitchen might be a fun idea. Time Out recommended taking in the New Yorker Hotel which, back in 1929, was the biggest hotel in the city and used to have an underground nightclub that came with its own miniature ice rink.
