New York proved popular in 2009
Apparently, this is the first time the Big Apple has been voted as such since 1990 so I'm sure there are some very happy people in the town right now - not least because it also recently featured in first place in Travelex's rundown of the best places in the world to spend New Year's Eve. And if reports are to be believed, the mayor of New York Michael Bloomberg is expecting this trend to continue.
So what are you waiting for? Jump on the bandwagon, I dare you and make your contribution to keeping New York up there with the best of them. You can't say that it doesn't deserve it. God loves a tryer and New York has so much to offer the intrepid backpacker in the way of food, entertainment, daytime activities and awe-inspiring sights to see that it's practically an archangel!
And hear this - the city has plans to entice 50 million visitors to its streets each year by 2012, despite the fact that the downturn has had an impact. There's nothing like a bit of optimism - much-needed in these gloomy economic times, I feel - so why not be one of those 50 million this year? Go on, you know you want to!
