Paris Plages an antidote to winter
In truth, I can't quite believe I've never heard of this before as it's so astronomically cool and I'll definitely be making a guest appearance at this annual event before too long. I'm talking about Paris Plages - where the beach comes to the city. Website Paris.fr is the wondrous portal that brought this magical affair to my attention and to them I shall remain eternally grateful.
Each year, the streets lining the Seine are scattered with golden sand and dotted with deckchairs, while residents and holidaymakers can relax and do all the things they would ordinarily do at the seaside, just in the middle of Paris instead. Apparently, beach volleyball is a favourite and kayaking around the lake is also a possibility for active beach bums.
So if you're in the area, make sure you check it out. It starts around July 20th and is on for a month, which leaves you plenty of time to work on your tan.
For travellers more inclined towards erudition rather than zipping around a body on water on pedal boats, a visit to Paris's Latin Quarter might be a good idea as this is generally regarded as the city's epicentre for great thinking.
