Party in Dominica at the World Creole Music Festival
Over the years, the Dominican festivities have seen acts such as Tabou Combo, Ophelia and Franky Vincent wow the crowds, bringing genres like Cadence-lypso and Kompas to the greater musical conscience. In its first year, 10,000 people stopped by to check it out but spectators have been growing in numbers ever since, with over 25,000 attending in 1999.
The festival is taking place just before the Dominican celebrations of Independence Day on November 3rd so if you're still travelling in the area, it might be an idea to stick around to soak up a bit more culture. Some of the events include a heritage expose in Colihaut and National Day, both of which are designed to promote the many sides to the island's traditions and history.
