Between the 17th and 20th, the Nunnery is to play host to the Film Festival which, once again, features the Under The Stars outdoor cinema for avid filmgoers who aren't put off by a bit of cold weather. Let's face it, Britain is hardly famed for its toasty-warm temperatures and sitting outside for a few hours could put some people off but I think it sounds delightful - take a blanket, a thermos of hot chocolate and hey presto! You've got yourself a good time.
Being shown outdoors - as a result of public demand, apparently - is Mamma Mia, the musical that took the world by storm. Now, when it comes to sing-along movies I'm not the biggest fan - except for Hairspray, of course and the dramatic Phantom of the Opera - but even I think that sitting outdoors, under the night sky, singing a bit of Super Trooper has some appeal. I might have to fill that thermos with whisky instead but you know
Luckily, for those not so up for the musical side of things, other films are being put on as well, including The Reader and Star Trek so there's really something for everyone. Failing that, if gore is what you're after, Aberystwyth in Wales hosts the Abertoir Horror Festival in November, which could be quite fun.
