Reserve an Amsterdam hostel and 'explore the pleasant city'
It might be an ideal time to book an Amsterdam hostel as according to Machteld Ligtvoet, communications manager for the Amsterdam Tourism and Convention Board (ATCB), the country's capital city has a very relaxed nature.
She added: "You can let your hair down - you can be yourself in Amsterdam. We respect and value difference."
Ms Ligtvoet recommended the Van Gogh and Hermitage museums for culture vultures, as well as other more unusual destinations such as the Museum of Bags and Purses and the Concertgebouw.
The latter houses a variety of shows and prior to one of the events individuals have the opportunity to arrange a guided tour of the venue, go to a lecture or have a meal.
Another reason why reserving a hostel in Amsterdam might be beneficial is the ring of canals in the city and Ms Ligtvoet noted that visiting later in the year is a "very special experience".
"This winter we will have a special event on the canals - I cannot say much about it yet, but it promises to be an impressive experience."
Research published by Skyscanner last week revealed that Amsterdam was the most popular destination when it comes to weekend breaks and Ms Ligtvoet pointed out that the ATCB was pleasantly surprised about its ranking.
Earlier this year, Aki Anastasiou, a Talk Radio broadcaster in New York speaking to Times Live, observed that museums in the Dutch capital city are "amazing" and he stated that the region was great for walking around or cycling in.
