Sample a true-blue New York hot dog
That's right, my friends. I'm talking about the hearty fare that no honest, hardworking New Yorker can do without - the hot dog. Just thinking about it now - nestled in its doughy sleeve, draped with sizzling onion and covered in layer upon layer of mustard, ketchup, chilli sauce and relish (I'm greedy, what can I say?) - is making me salivate with hunger.
If you're like me and can't get enough of these simple yet delicious treats then have I got a challenge for you. Make sure you're in the Big Apple on July 4th, skip breakfast and head on over to Nathan's on Coney Island to take part in the annual International Hot Dog Eating Contest. What could possibly be better than gorging yourself on a couple of hundred frankfurters? The bread will slow you down but it looks like it's all kinds of fun!
And Nathan's itself happens to be a bit of an institution as well, having been set up back in 1916 as a tiny hot dog vending stand and now enjoying the reputation of being one of the best places to go for this kind of yummy sandwich. You'd be a fool not to check it out!
