Scotland more than hills and haggis
I myself am a big fan of Edinburgh, the historic capital in which I've enjoyed a number of nights in great hostels. And it seems I'm not alone, as actor Dougray Scott has highlighted the city as one of the places he most enjoys spending his free time.
Now, I doubt the star of Mission: Impossible II and Desperate Housewives spends much time in hostels these days, but he has provided a list of his preferred activities in Scotland and Edinburgh features prominently among them.
Visit Scotland asked him for his top tips ahead of the Open Championship, as the attention of the golfing world is set to be on the country's Turnberry course this weekend.
The recommendations were far-reaching, including a drive down the Mull of Kintyre - made famous by the Paul McCartney song - and a trip to Sutherland in the Highlands.
On the capital itself, Scott remarked: "Edinburgh is one of my favourite cities in the world. Whilst filming New Town Killers there I always loved being around the New Town."
Indeed, in my experience the New Town area is a must-see for anyone planning a trip and I'd recommend hostels in Edinburgh to any traveller, particularly as the city seemed to be so accommodating of tourists.
