The thing I like most about LA is the near-perpetual sun that blesses the area. Being from Colorado, I'm used to all four seasons and love the snow, but a healthy dose of blazing sunshine worked wonders for me during my Californian crusade.
And of course, if it's nice outside, it immediately expands the amount of things you can do with your time. While many budding travellers might dismiss the City of Angels as a millionaire's paradise full of people desperate to be stars, it is actually chock-full of gorgeous sights and alternative activities.
One place I would recommend is Runyon Canyon, which was just two blocks away from my Hollywood Boulevard hostel. Encompassing 130 acres, there is a variety of walks and trails you can follow, picnic tables to enjoy a spot of lunch and viewpoints from which to see the vast expanse that is LaLa Land.
You'll see loads of joggers and dog-walkers on the way, so it's a great place to stretch your legs and spend zero dollars while you're at it.
Just remember to take enough water with you as it can get pretty warm and there are no hydration points en route. Check up on the rules before you go, too - for instance you can't smoke in the park and, if you take a pet pooch with you, they must stay on the leash.
