According to EarthTimes, April 2nd marks the start of a special market in Groningen that attracts 150,000 people annually. Those who decide to go will be treated to the rather colourful sight of hundreds of flower stalls.
What's more, there's also a flower parade that is put on towards the end of the month in Bollenstreek, which could be lots of fun to go to, even if flowers just give you a touch of hayfever and nothing more exciting. Amsterdam holidaymakers keen on attending should take note of the fact that it starts at 09:30 local time on April 24th and leaves Noordwijk to travel along a route that's 40 km long. Keep your cameras at the ready for the 20 floats that comprise the parade, as well as the 30 luxury cars that have been decorated for the occasion and the marching bands that keep everyone entertained.
However, if you choose to go before April, a visit this weekend might be a good idea, particularly for those who consider themselves to be romantic. Website I Amsterdam recently noted that the city has a "mysterious quality", with its waterways putting even the most hardened of cynics in a slushy mood.
