Things to do in San Francisco
San Francisco's also got other treats in store for backpackers off on cheap travel holidays. Music is the name of the game this winter and those interested really should not miss out on the 27th annual Jazz Festival from October 10th until November 21st. All sorts of artists are taking part, from Jake Shimabukuro to Esperanza Spalding. Failing that, there's also the Rock to Bluegrass Concerts series which will see bands like Pearl Jam, Incubus, The Mars Volta and the Black Eyed Peas taking to the stage in Golden Gate Park. I just wish I was going to be there.
Excitingly, there's also the Dragon Boat Festival towards the end of September, which has over 100 dragon boat teams and more than 2,500 paddlers competing. Apparently, dragon boat racing began 2,000 years ago and has now been turned into an international sport. It involves a boat (which has a dragon's head) with 20 paddlers, a drummer and a steersman trying to get over the finish line before anyone else. Sounds good.
