Of course, the fact that Jamaica is considered such a haven from afar means that a lot of people never actually think to get around to planning a trip there and it remains an out-of-reach idyllic holiday plan. But in this day and age surely nowhere is out of reach!
Indeed, the Jamaica Tourist Board has suggested that now is in fact the perfect time to discover the island. It emphasised the opportunities that exist for Brits in particular, as British Airways is now operating two flights from London Gatwick every week. In addition, the Post Office has apparently revealed that sterling is doing well against the Jamaican dollar, meaning holiday spending money is going further.
Perhaps, then, now is the time to check out hostels in Jamaica and all that the country has to offer. Among the attractions highlighted by the tourist board is the Raiders of Negril Cave Tour, which opens this year and allows visitors to explore an historic cave. There's also the Rastafari Indigenous Village, which is a cultural theme park that explores the history and culture of the movement.
And it seems to be a busy year for Jamaican tourism, as the Jerk Trail was recently created - offering tourists the chance to learn all about the cooking technique and enjoy some samples.
