Venice family holidays are a good idea
The Daily Mail's Wendy Holden observed that there's lots to do in Venice, particularly stuff that's "free [and] off-the-cuff", such as the Rialto fish market. Apparently, her children were intrigued by all the crabs - still alive - and the workers preparing the scallops for purchase.
According to Italy Heaven, these markets are open during the week from Monday to Saturday, although the fish section is closed on a Monday. They can be found on the Grand Canal in the San Polo district.
Ms Holden recommended that those trying to save a few pennies at mealtimes might like to head over to Guidecca, where there are cheap and relatively quiet cafes with amazing views of the city.
And for great entertainment that everyone will enjoy, she stated that "cycling on the Lido is a must for families". If you've got suitably small enough kids as well, there's no need for them to struggle along on their own bikes, as you can rent out ones with seats attached to the back.
