Tim Kiladze of Forbes spoke to lots of specialists working in the fields of architecture, urban planning and sustainable development so as to make an informed rundown and Venice stands proud as one of the most attractive places to take a trip.
Apparently, and this is something I didn't know - proving the old adage that you learn something new every day to be true - the city is sometimes called the adult Disneyland, as it offers visitors to the area the chance to take in a rich history.
One of the experts questioned by Mr Kiladze was Amanda Reynolds, a member of the UK's Urban Design Group. She had this to say about Venice: "[Its] ancient and elaborate buildings seem comfortable in their varying degrees of decay-fading colours and complex stonework around doors and windows opening off the canals and medieval footpaths just add to the mystery of a seductive place."
It could also be a good idea to book your ticket to Venice for early February, as this is when the 2010 Carnival is taking place. It's being held between the 6th and 16th and promises to be a rip-roaring good time.
