So it's pretty encouraging to know that no matter where you go in the world, you should able to find reasonably-priced accommodation, thanks to the wonders of hostels.
KDKA, a CBS TV station in Pittsburgh, has highlighted the fact that this option can be much less expensive than staying in hotels. Deborah Rue, who is executive director of six hostels in New England, explained that they have a lot to offer.
Some people have a bit of a negative attitude towards these wonderful establishments, which I think is mainly based on outdated ideas that they are basic and uncomforting.
But this is far from the modern reality, Ms Rue pointed out, as although hostels are simple, they have been "redesigned to bring people together".
"It's evolved because young people today expect and want more, so we have housekeeping staffs who do the laundry and clean the facilities, we provide them with linens and towels, we are no longer closed at night," she said.
It means that people of all ages are now recognising the benefits of hostels, although she pointed out that they're ideal for somebody who "wants an adventure" and not if you're looking for privacy!
Meanwhile, the Calgary Herald has published a guide of sorts for those who are planning to take a trip to London. It's aimed at keeping costs and hostels - of course - are included as a way to save your pennies while seeing the sights.
