Booking a cheap hostel in Los Angeles might be a good idea for this event, especially for those who may need somewhere to retreat to if they are easily scared by films.
The spectacle - which is taking place from September 30th until October 3rd - is currently in its tenth year and its website noted that it is "dedicated to getting horror, thriller, sci-fi and fantasy filmmakers and screenwriters the recognition they deserve".
Admission to the event is free which could leave a bit of extra cash for that Los Angeles hostel and there are discounted drinks until 20:00 local time.
The extravaganza is taking place in Hollywood Billiards and there are two additional categories featured this year, as well as shorts, documentaries and music videos, with the introduction of webisodes and original song.
Denise Gossett came up with the idea for a horror film festival in 2001 and she noted that submissions have "gone through the roof" with entries now coming from all over the world.
Ms Gossett thought of creating an event after starring in the horror flick Chain of Souls, but she quickly realised that there were not many ways to get recognised.
Other similar events that may give visitors a spook include electronic music festival Monster Massive, which takes place on October 23rd at the Los Angeles Sports Arena and Exposition Park.
The event is currently in its 13th year and will feature acts such as Radio 1 DJ Judge Jules, among many others.
