Booking a cheap hostel in Hamburg - to allow the most money possible for presents - could be handy for keen shoppers who want to experience a new location, as well as get their friends and families alternative gifts.
And the Christmas markets could be the ideal place to pick up presents for friends and families.
Stefanie Raudschus, new media executive at the German National Tourist Office, said the markets are very popular with travellers and there are around seven during the festive period.
But there are plenty of other upcoming events that could be worth reserving a Hamburg hostel for, such as the Hamburger DOM - an amusement park and festival.
Ms Raudschus added: "Hafengeburtstag is really popular – it is an amusement park with many attractions, nice food and music. It is in the early summer as well."
Moreover, culinary enthusiasts might be more inclined to purchase some food from the fish stalls, which are located in the city every morning.
One dish recommended by Ms Raudschus is labskaus, which is a fish with meat and egg mixed together inside it, she noted it "really doesn't look nice but it is really tasty".
Last month, SkyScanner - which compares cheap flights - revealed that Hamburg was a new entry in terms of the top 100 flight trends, entering its list as the number 96.
