- Posted in:Hostel Features
For most people, staying at an airport hostel is mainly for the sake of convenience; however the Jumbo Hostel at Arlanda Airport in Stockholm is changing this. In keeping with its surroundings and taking recycling to a whole new level, the Jumbo Hostel is an airport hostel with a difference. This Arlanda based hostel is housed in a grounded Boeing 747 airplane. The Jumbo Hostel is only a ten minute walk from the check-in counters at Arlanda airport, making this the perfect location for an overnight stay before getting an early flight from Arlanda Airport. With its 25 rooms, this quirky airport hostel is an attraction all in itself with the added bonus of a great location for travellers using this Stockholm airport.
History of the Jumbo Hostel
The Jumbo Hostel came about when the need for an airport hostel at Arlanda airport was met with the entrepreneurial ideas of hostel owner Oscar Diös. He decided to use the decommissioned Boeing 747 jet to set up an airport hostel. After a lot of work remodelling the interior while keeping a lot of its original features like the first class seats and the over-head lockers for room storage, the Jumbo Hostel was ready to open its airplane doors to the public. It now resides at the gates of Arlanda Airport and is a must-see for anyone coming to the airport.
The Jumbo Hostel boasts 25 rooms with a total of 85 beds. You can avail of the private rooms that have between 3 and 4 bunk beds, a private room for one person or a bed in a dorm of four if you are on your own and don’t mind sharing. All rooms at the Jumbo Hostel have use of shared bathrooms, have a flat-screen TV, internet access and storage space. And if you fancy something extra special, then book into the cockpit suite. This converted control room has two beds and its own private en suite bathroom with excellent views through the cockpit window.
Have a sneak peak
On board this airport hostel there’s also a cafe where curious passer-bys can drop in for a coffee or something to eat and have a look at this innovative hostel at Arlanda Airport. Guests and visitors can also try their luck at getting out onto one of the wings for a walk and the experience of standing on a Boeing 747 jet. There’s also a souvenir shop where you can take a piece of the Jumbo Hostel home with you.
The Jumbo Hostel is proving very popular with business travellers catching early flights at Arlanda and curious backpackers who love the quirky concept of this airport hostel. Regardless of what category you fall into on your visit to Stockholm don’t miss your chance to stay in one of the coolest airport hostels around.
