Travel Hotspots 2011

It’s that time of year again when everyone in the world of travel is looking ahead to where to go in 2011. Here at Hostels.com HQ we’ve been looking through the lists for top travel deals and travel destinations for 2011 and put together the places that caught our interest. We’ve also included some of our recommendations along with some of our old favourites.

 

Rome, Italy

Travel Hotspots 2011Rome is a great city to visit at any time of year as it has a warm climate but for travel in 2011, Rome comes highly recommended. When visiting Rome you quickly find that it is the kind of city that keeps surprising you at every corner as there are so many iconic buildings and images throughout the city. It’s a great city to walk around and the public transport is also easy to use.

 

The architecture and history are a great reason to visit Rome, but the food is another! Watch out for the tourist traps – these will be the places that have pictures of food on the menu and ones that charge €5 for a soft drink! If you find a good restaurant though you will be rewarded as Italian cooking comes to life here. So if you are planning your holidays for 2011 make sure to consider Rome!

 

 

Melbourne, Australia

Travel Hotspots 2011This Australian city had long been associated with arts, culture and great entertainment. Those reasons alone make it a great choice for you holidays for 2011. Melbourne also prides itself on its great restaurants and it is often hailed as a ‘foodie’s paradise’. There is also lots of great sightseeing in Melbourne making it the perfect choice for your travel 2011.

 

 

Madrid, Spain

Travel Hotspots 2011Many visitors choosing Spain for a weekend break tend to overlook Madrid and opt for Barcelona instead. However Madrid is well worth a visit and is a great choice for travel in 2011. Madrid is a beautiful city to walk around and it also has some great shops, parks and squares to sit out in. Madrid is probably the best place to experience tapas too. When you go to eat out, this is the way to do it – lots of small dishes and great if there is a group of you. Chicago, USA

Travel Hotspots 2011The mid-west is often overlooked also when it comes to USA trips as travellers tend to go either west or east coast, availing of popular travel offers. Chicago really is an amazing city that’s easy to get around due to its good public transport, and if you are in the downtown area, or The Loop as it is known, it’s a great area to walk around.

 

 

Galway, Ireland

Travel Hotspots 2011The west of Ireland has so much to offer and is a great choice for couples or families for travel in 2011. If you base yourself in Galway with a few days to spare you really can make the most of the city. Galway city is beautiful to walk around and also has some great shopping. If you get a nice day then you really can enjoy Eyre Square and the Spanish Arch, or even make the short trip out to Salthill and enjoy the beach and this coastal town.

 

If you have a car at your disposal then you can get exploring the west of Ireland and take some scenic drives. You could also hire some bicycles, and this is a great option if you have a family with you. You can hire the bikes and safety equipment and take some great scenic routes and make a day of it. A visit to Galway is must if you are planning your summer holidays 2011.

 

 

Edinburgh, Scotland

Travel Hotspots 2011This is a great city at any time of year to visit with your family, but it’s also ideal for a weekend break with your partner or with some friends for your holidays 2011. It’s great for a family holiday, particularly during certain months as Edinburgh plays host to a lot of festivals.

 

In April there’s the Science festival which runs for two weeks, then in May there is the Imaginate Festival which is all about shows and entertainment for children and teenagers. Then in August there are more festivals including the Festival Fringe and the International Festival. Edinburgh really is a great place to visit at all times, but it’s especially good if you plan your visit around one of these festivals. There are also some great attractions for families in Edinburgh such as Edinburgh Castle, some great museums and parks too. The city is packed with some great iconic attractions such as the Lincoln Memorial and the White House to name but a few. The city is also packed full of American history, politics and culture, as well as being great for shopping and featuring some really nice neighbourhoods. However, travel in 2011 sees this changing as the city has been selected as a 2011 European Capital of Culture. The bar is being raised on tourism in Tallinn for 2011 to embrace this role, making it an ideal holiday for 2011.
