Fremantle Prison is located outside of Perth but is worth the journey to visit this. This prison was fully operational until 1991. You can take a tour here during the day or night. How many different modes of public transport are there in Perth?
There are three main modes of transport – bus, train and taxi. Transperth operate the city’s public transport system. Buses are reliable and run to the suburbs and between bus and train stations. There’s also a free CAT bus service in the city centre, Northbridge, Freemantle and Joondalup and run every 10 minutes. Trains in Perth are perfect for getting to suburban areas. All trains can be got from the central station in the city. Taxis in Perth can be problematic as they are not a lot of them serving the city which is particularly noticeable during peak hours and weekends.
Is there one ticket which covers bus/train/subway?
Yes, it’s called the SmartRider. The Transperth system is divided into 9 concentric zones, as well as the Free Transit Zone (city centre and surrounds). You can only avail of the Free Transit Zone on the trains if you have a SmartRider card; passengers without a card have to buy a ticket.
Will I need to use public transport at all?
If you are staying in the city centre of Perth then you will probably walk around a lot. However, public transport does come in handy when you want to visit other parts of the city or the suburbs. It’s also very easy to use Perth’s public transport system.
