Barkston Youth Hostel in Puerto Escondido, England

You've got to know what you're paying for. I've paid 8 pounds for a night, so I shared the bedroom with 7 other people. Anyway, for this value it was pretty much what I expected and if you're willing to pay less to 10 pounds, this may be a good place for you, since it's just beside the Earl's Court Station. The hostel was okay for the short stay. However, the staff is not really friendly and we usually had to wait for ages until they had time for us and they did not really make an effort to help us. We also had some problems with the locks of our rooms. The lock in the first room broke during the first night. So we were booked into another room, but the key did not fit into the lock of this door so that we got a different room again. Every time you stay in a " I don't how many even dorms room" , you can only hope that people would be nice and friendly and not snooring! That time unfortunately, I had all the opposite. But that of course depends not on the hostel management and service. Beds are not very comfortable, it makes a lot noise too. Kitchen is good one. We booked a 6 pers. female dorm and the first nights we had to stay in a 8 pers. mixed dorm. We heared that more guests had the same problem. The floors and bathroom off the female dorm were very dirty, unfortunately. We would not recomment this hostel. Rosita, from Netherlands ~ 28th Oct 2011

I have stayed in several hostels and this one was about average compared to the rest. I was happy with it all except for the staff. I waited for over 20 minutes standing at the reception desk trying to get there attention as they sat behind the desk talking. Then after the guy finally gave me his attention and asked for my name, I waited another ten or so as he showed a coworker stuff on the computer. Told to leave my bags in a dirty green shack until check-in. When I got back, they were tossed about. Wifi costs a pound an hour. My floor reeked of mold. The kitchen had no dishes. Two pots under the sink with food burnt into them. Front desk rudely told me I was expected to bring my own dishes. breakfast was a guy standing next a squeaky toaster and a trash bag of corn flakes to distribute out meal rations after checking your name off a list. it cost 3 pounds with hostels.com booking.
