Chateau Franz Backpackers in Dunhuang, Neuseeland

Good hostel with a nice selection of DVDs and a big common area with a big TV to hang out with other travelers and watch a movie. It would have been better if there was free Internet since Internet options in franz Josef are kind of limited. Jocelyn, from USA ~ 15th Feb 2012

Franz wasn't our favorite hostel in NZ. Hostel's kitchen was good and spacious, tv room was poorly equipped with and old CRT television. We were upgraded to a lodge with shared kitchen, tv and bathroom. My opinion was that the room smelled roughly of mildew, air was damp and spider webs were hanging in the corners of the room. The kitchen utensils were also bit dirty and the oven/hob is from the 60's. They would've moved us but we only stayed for one night so it was bearable.
