Che Lagarto Hostel Montevideo Uruguay in Montevideo, Uruguay

This is the place to stay at when you are in Montevideo. Must admit that I was very lucky with my room as it overlooked Plaza Independencía from the balcony. The classic postcard came to live. But! To me this is a bit too much of a party place and they do not seem to realise that they are, in fact, a hostel. Next time I might as well book a bed in a bar and have a night out at this hostel. They lost my reservation and sent me to a private room that was falling apart... the staff didn't seem to care to much... didn't like the place at all. Ended up living on the same day and going to a much better Hostel. I would not recommend. Rebecca, from Brazil ~ 14th Jan 2009

It is a nice place to stay, specially for its location - in center of Montevideo, Plaza Indep. The staff is nice too. The only problem: cleanliness: the bathrooms are dirty and the don´t clean them often. I took 3 days there and loved the city by the way. Bruno Luis, from Brazil ~ 8th Jan 2009

If you are looking for a place to party every night, that's the place. If you're looking for a place to SLEEP, that's definitely NOT the place. Noisy, dirty, smelly and dingy. But quite a nice spirit.

Hi Paulo. Thanks for your comment. Bathrooms are cleaned every 30 minutes and if you come to south america to spend new year´s eve in a hostel it will be a lot of people trying to have fun. Soory if you was looking for something else. Our security is excelent and i would like to know why you think that our security is not good. We have security lockers under the beds and beside the reception. There´s non extra charges to use them. For sure you are more than welcome to comeback to our hostel to show you that we have things going really good around here and things are not bad like you say. We are on the best location of Montevideo beside the " Ciudad Vieja " and 50 meters from the main street. We wish you a Happy New Year.

Friendly staff, but money, passport und credit card were stolen from me, inside my room, right after the beds were made. Very strange. The documents didn't show up. I'm sorry, but this must be said, even when I should have used the lockers.

We feel very sorry Bernardo about what happend to you. We try to do our best to help you, we did all on our hands and for sure we are going to improve our controls so this will not happend on our Hostel. We trust on the people that works here and we are sure about we are saying. Everyone knows that the lockers are to keep your things safely and if someone leaves their things outside of the lockers we are not responsible of missing items. Once again, we are sorry about this situation on your Holidays but like we say before, we can´t be responsible for stolen or missing items if you have lockers everywere. That´s your responsability. The best located hostel ever! Chelagarto is just across the main square in the city, from where you can get to any point of Montevidéu easily! The staff was amazing to me and made feel like at home all the time! Definetely a place to stay! Way to go, Che lagarto! Germano, from Brazil ~ 24th Dec 2008
