unlike some comments suggest, the hostel is not just close to the beach, it's basically ON the beach and you hear the waves in the rooms and see the ocean from the balkony. it's very clean and basic. walls are very thin (seems to be the rule in penang). transportation is easy (bus 101 to georgetown/national park is very frequent). the town itself is absolutely lame (except for the night market). also, don't expect a nice tropical sea, it reminded me more of an industrial port in the baltic sea! The staff at ET Guesthouse were very informative and genuine.The hostel was well maintained, safe and had all the required amenities.We had no problems with the aircon and the hot water system worked perfectly. HONG, from Australia ~ 26th Jul 2011

A great place with an even better location. Also the family staff was very genuine and caring. The room was one of the cleanest hostel rooms I had ever stayed in. I certainly recommend this guesthouse to any traveller. Jason, from USA ~ 31st Mar 2011

Everything was fine, but there have been new loudspeakers installed to the neighbouring mosque and you get woken by the muezin every morning at about 6am. There's really no way you can sleep through it or ignore it. If you're planning to get up early anyways it shouldn't be aproblem though. The beach is right before the doorstep aswell.
