El Hostal in Guatemala, Guatemala

Had a great 4-day stay at El Hostal upon arriving in Antigua. The staff is really friendly and will do a lot to help you out. The hostel is located a few minutes from the central square and there are two a great bars, Café No Sé and Café Sky, just across the street. The place is clean and nice. I don't recommend this hostel for person who is traveling alone and can't speak spanish. The overnight reception man tried to cheat me 20 us doller. The shuttle to Chichi and Pna from Antigua is 20us doller. He said me " You are solo traveler, You have to pay double price. Pay 40!" And He demamded 5 us doller Tip. I rejected it. El Hostel was a real pleasure, a very simple but adequate place to stay in Antigua. Nice English speaking staff attending the desk during business hours, very clean communal bathrooms, good location, small garden to enjoy a beer. They have a staff person attending the desk all evening to let you in, although only a Spanish speaker. If you wish for a full service hotel this is not the place. But, if you require adequate comfort with a nice free breakfast you'll enjoy yourself at El Hostel kirk, from USA ~ 14th Apr 2009

The overnight staff person continued to ask me over and over for a twenty dollar tip for himself. I am pretty sure this is not a standard thing because the first night I checked out the staff person did not expect any sort of tip, let alone one that is considerably over a 100% tip.
