Garden Hostel is tucked away in the narrow streets of the Old town. It's a nice location if you just want to chill out away from the noise of the new town. It took me a long time to find the hostel as the staff member couldn't direct me. When I arrived I was warmly greeted. The mixed 4 bed dorm is very basic but generally clean. The showers were hot when I was there but there is a notice to say there may be none (I think this is just an old town thing). The staff, and particularly the owner, of this place went out of their way to help with whatever I needed. The rooms are clean and comfortable, the showers full of pressure and hot!, and the beautiful courtyard really lives up to its name "Garden." My wife and I stayed at the hostel on October 2011. We took a deluxe private room with shower (so I don't know about the rest of the rooms) and enjoyed it very much. The hostel was clean, located very well and the staff is very very nice and helpful. Mei, the owner of the hostel was probably the nicest person in China! She helped us a lot, was very patient and knowledgeable. Her professionalism and attitude affects the entire staff. The staff is extremely helpful!They go out of their way to make sure everything is taken care of for you including helping with taxis and bus tickets.They help answer all questions.The common areas are beautiful.The western breakfast is good as is the coffee.This is a comfortable place.Nice atmosphere!Highly recommended.
