George House in Toronto, Canada

Although it was conveniently placed in downtown Toronto the street it was in was exceedingly dodgy although the surrounding area seemeed to be ok. once in the house though you immediately feel safe and secure. Peter, from Australia ~ 22nd Sep 2009

A fine hostel, in a location close to downtown, in an awful street. While nothing happened, you will feel uneasy on this street at night. It is next to a strip club and down the road from a halfway house. However, the hostel almost on the corner of a main road, so it isn't too far down this street. Inside the hostel is safe and secure, with code protection and if you're willing to put up with a somewhat seedy street, it is worth checking out. It is a great hostel if you're after privacy. The house is close to a homeless shelter and a strip club which means there are lots of people wandering up and down the street. However, the house itself is very secure and clean. The room is above most hostel and guest house standards. Ruth, from USA ~ 8th Sep 2009

This place rocked. I placed a reservation (including the fee) for Aug. 27th and they sent me a cancellation email at the last minute because they had "maintenance problems". I asked for a refund (the booking fee) as well and yet they said it was a "difficult process". I don't know, I'm not grudging over it anymore but by recommendation, if you happen to roll your eyes on the listing of hostels in Toronto, steer away from George House. we didn't actually stay here but got moved to all days house 3 cos the owner adam had double booked us. but it was so great cos all days house 3 was the BEST. it was a ten min walk to all the shops! and had two great supermarkets across the road! we had a private room which might as well been a hotel room it was so nice! great loc & a short walk to a niagara falls pick up point. We stayed at All Days House 2 in February 2009. The location is amazing, it is less than a five minutes walk from downtown. There's parking just around the corner from the hostel. The rooms are simple, but cosy. There's free wireless Internet and there's also a computer, free local phonecalls and a great kitchen. Only saw the guy owning the place on the day of check in, but you can easily contact him whenever you might need assistance. Very good prices for a very good hostel. I stayed there for 18 days and it was fine. The only thing I would complain about is that I only got a new towel once! Adam was very kind. There were some guys staying there who made a lot of noise during the evening. The neighbourhood can look a bit scary but I have nothing bad to say about it. All in all a great place to stay.
