Overall, had a good stay here. It's located in a trendy neighborhood in NW near lots of restaurants and bars. Plan on at least a 15 min walk if you're dragging luggage from Amtrak. Much easier walk to the light rail stop for the airport. You'll need public transit to get downtown in SW or rent a bike. My bike was a decent hybrid, no suspension so not a great offroader. Used the full kitchen to save money on eating out. Not at all a party hostel, quiet time at 10pm and no booze after 10pm. Amy, from USA ~ 18th Apr 2012

At first, I thought this place was going to be too far away from the neighborhoods I wanted to explore, but it ended-up being the perfect location for staying in Portland.Nob Hill/The Alphabet District is now my favorite neighborhood, and the hostel is minutes from everything you need - Pearl District, train/bus/ parks, etc.I would highly recommend staying here - the staff is friendly and there is more than enough info around the hostel to help you plan your stay. I stayed here for two nights in a shared room in March 2012 and I had a great experience here.Everything were clean, especially the kitchen and bathroom.This place was so charming, it reminded me of a Bed and Breakfast.They had lots of kitchen equipment for cooking and lots of information about local events and share car information.The staff were jolly and friendly.The only bad thing is that it isn't 24 hours meaning if youcannot check-in btwn midnight until 8am, you may be toast. When we arrived we were told that our room's boiler has been acting up. For the first half of the first night is leaked steam and made the room very humid. However, Dakota was very nice about it and said it should be fixed asap and sure enough by the time we got back to our room the next from touring the city we didn't have another problem with it. I was very happy with the Hostel. Everything was good, it was clean, close to public transport, they offered some activities, the breakfast was delicious (they offered local bread), the rooms were very clean and pretty big. Only thing was, I did not feel very welcome when I asked the staff about things and they seemed to be kind of pissed about my questions or issues (my key did not work).
