HI-Vancouver Downtown in San Francisco, Kanada

The staff where very robotic in that they where not very friendly or welcoming. Even though we had a private room we had a Jack and Jill wash room which felt awkward as we did not want to spend a lot of time in the shower, I would prefer just a over all shared bathroom in a hallway. The room was very cold when we got there and had to turn up the heat which took a couple of hours to actually feel like it was working. The breakfast time was short and they would clean up while you where eating.

Hello and thank you for your comments. I appreciate your honest feedback and am sorry that your stay was filled with a few challenges. We do have two private rooms with a connecting bathroom. All others have the bathroom in the hallway. Some of our guests enjoy the semi-private room. I am sorry that we were not able to move you to another room. We do actually turn the heat down in rooms that are not occupied in order to be energy conscious. Very well-located hostel: 5 minutes to Seawall, everything you need on Davie Street (1 block away). Staff very friendly: Signed me up for an HI-membership so that I have to pay less, offered me breakfast although breakfast time was already over, always helpfull with all kinds of questions. There no group activites offered, but one could do a lot of things near to the hostel. Bathromms (on 2nd floor) and rooms very clean. I dealt with three different staff members during my stay and none of them made me feel especially welcome or comfortable. I felt like I had to coax information out of them - the opposite of what I think the hostel mentality is all about. Also, the breakfast process seemed unorganized, and they had roped off the kitchen before everyone had a chance to do the dishes. Likewise, the bathroom on my floor was closed for cleaning before check-out, the time when most guests need to use them. Emily, from USA ~ 29th Nov 2011

I did not realize at the time of booking the Hostel, but this is site charges extra for booking on the site. In future I will use the Hostel direct site. The Hostel its self, is amazing. We will return! Valentine, from Canada ~ 12th Oct 2011
