The Hanwood Youth Hostel is a great place to stay at in Xi'an. It was a bit cold, but the location (across the street from the big goose pagoda), staff (excellent English, friendly, knowledgeable - AMAZING!) and supreme French Toast (Manny's the MAN) are totally worth wearing your coat about. We would very highly reccommend this hostel and would definitely go back. Staff: The staff were exceptional - the best we've seen. They went out of their way to help us, even giving us their phone number so a salesperson could call them and they could neg a sim card for us. They really went above and beyond and are a real asset to a great hostel. This place is great, unless you want to get any sleep... It backs on a very, very, very noisy street, with crappy windows that don't block out any sound, and they allow dogs... in the next room a dog barked every night until about midnight and every morning starting around 6am.Our trip to Xi'an was less than perfect since we were exhausted the entire time due to a lack of sleep.Oh, and the bed was rather uncomfortable. I don't see my review of this hostel on the website so i will risk repeating myself because this hostel is worth it! My son and I stayed here for about 6 days and it was delightful - sparkling clean bathroom and clean room. VERY helpful and enthusiastic staff, nice fellow hostelers. It is convenient to Big Goose Pagoda and restaurants, only a bus ride away from other sights. i am scouting out the best places to bring our students next year and this will definintely make it on the list. The staff are not very friendly and not very helpful...they didn't go out of their way to give us directions or travel suggestions.The shared bathroom was okay but the showers were a bit dirty.The location is good...near the Wild Goose Pagoda and Tang Paradise.Also there is a cool convenience store right by the hostel where you can get yummy snacks!
