Hostel Aphrodite in Athens, Greece

10 minutes walking to the acropolis!!! What a joke!!! Only if you are flash. HOstel is 40 minutes from acropolis and 7 streets from the metro station. The area is not residencial, is a quite ugly place. NOT A GOOD PLACE TO STAY! Linen included is not true. We have to paid for them FacundoJose, from Argentina ~ 9th Oct 2009

One of the dirtier hostels that I have stayed at. It's not really close to anything. There are 1.50 euro gyros nearby though which were pretty good. No security lockers but they do offer to store your valuables at the front desk. I found the neighborhood relatively safe contrary to the other reviewers as the hostel is near a police station where the police were walking their beat with their automatic sub-machineguns. The hostel was clean and the atmosphere was nice. They have a bar on site downstairs where you can get food or a drink. That's always a plus. The staff was super helpful. The front desk gave me great advice about the islands, even helping me go to the website and find out how much ferry tickets were. They went above and beyond, so that was great. One tiny thing-I wish they had plug/outlets in the room to charge up phones, computers, etc...Good overall stay though. Ashley, from USA ~ 12th Sep 2009

Not huge on character, but very clean, with warm showers, nice staff and air conditioning. No top sheet provided. No common room/lobby, so that's kinda a bummer. Neighborhood wasn't as bad as other reviews suggested. Jamie, from USA ~ 5th Sep 2009

it was a hotel, not hostel so don't expect to meet a lot of other travelers. it was within walking distance of a great market, bus station and the wonderful black sand beaches. the owner is very nice but his wife and child always had horrible screaming matches right in front of other guests. our room had ac, no cable like advertised, but it did have a mini fridge. overall it was a good place to stay but not a very fun one. marina, from USA ~ 24th Sep 2009
