San Diego is a great city and this hostel was a great location to explore it from. I was there during the kitchen renovations and I thought that situation was managed well. The travel advice I got for going north up the coast to Laguna Beach was quite limited and I found out later that there were faster and more efficient options.It may be best to either train your staff on those options, or advise them to provide web addresses to the traveler for their own research. I stayed at Hostelling International in Downtown San Diego with my 4 year old daughter.We had a private room.It was safe, clean, and in an excellent location.It is a tad noisy at night as its right above a few bars but I knew that before I booked the room. Heat, or just not air conditioning. I stayed on the second floor and it was freezing in all the hallways. Also, it would be nice to mention that people should ask if they want a bathroom if they have a private suite, or at least ask them if they want one with a bathroom. We stayed at Hostelling International for one night in January 2012. The hostel itself is in a central location and is great for exploring San Diego and the local bar/restaurant scene. We stayed in a private room with bathroom, the room was clean and comfortable. We were very disappointed with the staff who we found to be rude and unaccommodating. This hostel is very hip and cute. It's also in a perfect location downtown with beautiful views of the city. But if you have a car, parking was a little difficult. Great Place. Went with my seven year old and he loved it! Our room was very nice, bed was comfy and staff was super helpful.
