Yashi is a fabulous host. He not only guided us to two fantastic places to eat in Gion but also ordered for us. He's a great cook, too! This guest house is easy to get to from Kyoto station, if you follow Y's detailed instructions (the #205 bus is easier and quicker than the train), and has a friendly, welcoming vibe to it. If you don't mind sharing a space with vibrant people, it's a real find.

We had an absolutely wonderful time at IchiEnSou, the decor was amazing and the location superb. Yashi was great fun and does an awesome job running the place. It was just too bad that I was sick from the heat and couldn't hang out more. Will definitely go back in cooler weather. Highly recommended.

absolutely perfect :-) the nicest dorm I have ever seen. The host was very helpful and fluent in english. The rooms and bathroom where potlessly clean and the whole atmosphere was so relaxing. If I come back to Kyoto, I deffinetely will stay here again.

Yashi is unbelievable nice and Kyoto is so interesting. The hostel is easy to find and the people staying are great. Really loved my stay. It might have been the best hostel I`ve ever been to.

This place is so clean and friendly. The location is fantastic, and the rooms are beautiful. I can't wait to come back, although I imagine it will be hard to get a room once it becomes a little more well known!

This has been my favorite place to stay and really added to my trip in Japan.. The hostel owner is great, he took us on a walking tour and was very helpful in offering advice. The accomodation was very clean and had great character. I am telling all my friends to stay here.

We stayed at IchiEnSou Guesthouse in April 2008 - it was fabulous and was a highlight of our stay in Kyoto! The location is unbelievable, right in the middle of the Gion district, and walking distance to several shrines and plenty of restaurants. IchiEnSou is incredibly clean, and beautifully decorated. The owner Yashi was incredible, so warm and welcoming and had us over for dinner several nights!! It made for an amazing experience, and really made the trip for us. We had dinner with the other
