MEININGER Hotel Cologne City Center in Cologne, Germany

Great place to stay, the staff was very friendly and helpful. The rooms were great. The shared bathrooms are within the actual rooms, so the shared bathroom is among those who stay in bedroom and not a whole floor. The full kitchen was great to cook some cost saving meals. The bar downstairs had some great happy hour deals, there was also free WIFI available. I would certainly return to this hostel. Jenny, from USA ~ 21st Aug 2009

My only gripes are the windows need some sort of a screen on the windows to keep out the bees(which isn't the hotel's fault they are so aggressive) and the internet in rooms is not free it is 8 euros a night, the description on the site could go either way, so I cannot fault them. Prices of breakfast higher than price advertised in room. Can make cheap calls home. Ensuite in dorm. Dorm was very crowded and small beds pressed up against onanother and not much room for luggage at all. there were lockers in room but not big enough for my pack. Like the other MEININGER's, the one in Cologne is very good. There's one thing I hated, though. The only common area they have where you could sit for using your laptop, or having something to drink, is where everyone smokes! If you're not a smoker, like me, then you're bound to get really pissed off about that. Besides that, the location was nice and things were clean! ANDRE, from Brazil ~ 2nd Aug 2009

Very good hostel, with friendly staff in a nice neighbourhood, with good travel connections to the city centre. Not many events going on in the hostel, but it does have a nice chilled 24hour bar to lounge in. We stayed in a double en-suite room, decent size, but bathroom didn't smell great! Overall good value. The hostel was incredibly easy to find, decent neighborhood and the employees were very nice. My room was very clean and the buffet breakfast was a good deal, especially because I ate a ton of food.
