Wildly overrated. While Mama's dinner is excellent and the common areas are fun and a good place to meet people, the place is severely understaffed, the rooms are not safe (no door lock unless you bring your own) and very noisy (no isolation and squealing door, a killer in a dorm with people going in and out). Bathrooms are way too scarce and sometimes very dirty. Moreover, staff tips and information can be misleading, as well as information posted here is inaccurate (i.e. no pickup). Good place to hang out, meet other travellers and organize a hike to Tiger Leaping Gorge. Mama and Papa are hilarious, but she can be kind of a dragon lady. Poor Papa! Tim, from Germany ~ 27th Mar 2011

2nd time here and there is still nothing to complain about. Mama is an amazing woman and she will frequently go out of her way to make your travels as smooth as silk. The dinners are fantastic and the free fruit and tea is an excellent plus. Staff are perfectly friendly, helpful and always smiling. Tucked away in a quiet area of the Old Town, you are close enough to enjoy everything but not so close that you need to deal with the bar street. Can hardly be recommended enough.
