The location was definitely the best part of the hostel. The staff was helpful and friendly, but they were the loud all night while the guests were sleeping. The rooms were tiny but clean, as were the bathrooms. The terrace had a great view of the plaza, but it was somcold this time of year, even with the space heater in the lobby. The place isn't heated but beds are comfy with warm blankets. Incredible location with views of Plaza de Armes, easy bus ride to airport and two metro stations close by. They have security cams in common areas and someone always at the front desk, but it was clear someone had messed with our lockers and even rifled through our toiletries located on a shelf in the room. Good hostel. Fabulous location on the Plaza de Armas with views from the terrace of the hostel and even from the room we had. Not the safest area in Santiago though and not the clranest hotel I have been to. We had a private double which was well decorated and very spacious. Not sure about the dorms. I'll add another area to your list above (Character, fun staff etc): Facilities. I'd give this another "Excellent" . . .it includes full cooking facilities (even to the extent of a bread-making machine), dining tables, chairs on the balcony, computers etc etc. The staff at reception speak excellent English, are very helpful, very humorous (especially Rodrigo!), and really make you feel at home.
