Plaza de Armas Hostel in Santiago, Chile

Great hostel! The location in the Plaza was excellent with great views of the square. There was also free internet, and it was a very clean and very secure hostel. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful which helped me make the most of my short time in Santiago. I only wish I had more days in Santiago to enjoy it for longer! Location is good but there were creepy homeless people outside. The building itself is leaky; we had sawdust all over the floors to absorb the rain. The view from the windows above the main plaza was nice - we stayed in a private ensuite which was a nice, large room. Breakfast was plain and not as expected(every morning was the same thing) cereal, old milk, dry bread which became stale quickly. The place seemed to be run by kids, which was a bit sketchy at first. If you want / need a good nights' sleep this may well not be the place for you. Some other guests are not very considerate of how sound travels in the loft and one night had a party till 3 in the morning. The dorm rooms do not have walls - and are open to the common area where everyone is partying - it is impossible to sleep here until at least 3 am every night ... do not select this hostel if you want sleep. Rishi, from Canada ~ 26th Aug 2009

Breakfast service was a plus. Double was a bit tight and service lacking; I had to ask at least four times to get my broken space heater replaced. I´ve had better. Great location though. Ryan, from USA ~ 2nd Aug 2009

Great location and hostel was very clean with well equipped kitchen. Staff very helpful. Downsides were cold showers and it was very noisy at night so hard to have a quiet night if you need one. Sophie, from New Zealand ~ 18th Jun 2009
