Excellent staff-warm and will do everything to help you find you activities of your choice, such as meeting the Brazilian Top Team. Delicious breakfasts and a cute sausage dog to keep you company are provided. We stayed in the dorm room one night and it was quite tight for space. There were two bathrooms and they're pretty small As well but that seemed to be the norm in Rio. The location is primo, right in the heart if Ipanema.if you're older and is willing to spend a few more dollars, I recomm hyelee, from USA ~ 18th Aug 2009

This was my first ever Hostel experience, being very apprehensive when I first booked...however it turned out to be a great choice. I loved every minute of my stay at The Lighthouse. This Hostel was one of the best things about my Rio experience. Sylvia and her staff are possibly the nicest people I have ever met. I just can't wait to go back. Hirok, from England ~ 4th Aug 2009

The bathrooms could use some upgrading. While they are very clean, the facilities are antique. Upstairs only warm water, not really hot. Downstairs you have to light the gas heater with a match. Roland, from Austria ~ 8th May 2009

staff were amazing, could not do enough! Was our first stop on our 18 month trip and could not have hoped for a better welcoming into this travelling malarky. Recmmend to all. what can i say- the best hostel iv ever stayed in. great for security, area and meeting ppl etc but what really makes it amazing are the staff... extremely friendly and lots of fun and so helpful- they not only look after you but party with you too!!! Richard, from Ireland ~ 9th Dec 2008
