I really didn't like the location. It's very far away from the city, and takes a long time to walk there. Also, it's super expensive during Spring Festival, so stay away from here at that time. Another thing, my parents and I ordered at the restaurant and we had to wait 1 hour for our food. Which ended up being a cold sandwich. How that takes 1 hour, not sure. Overall, wouldn't recommend it, unless you want to be alone in the country. Also, they overcharge on the tickets for the light show.

A very nice hostel in a wonderful, quiet location situated just out of town. The food is excellent, the Belgian beers very tasty. The staff was very friendly and helpfull and performed all their duties with a big smile on their faces. Highly recommended to stay here when in YangShuo. We had a wonderful time here, would have stayed much longer given the opportunity! We are curious about the real Carpe Diem, because it was closed for renovations, but this worked out perfectly fine. It's a good 15 minute walk into town, but it is nice to get away from the noisy nightlife and enjoy the quite countryside at the hostel. I highly recommend renting a bike from the hostel for a day to go biking around the countryside. It's possible to get to the majority of the good sights by bike. Jocelyn, from USA ~ 15th Feb 2012

Nice place with clean dorms. Excellent location, just far enough out of the centre to be relaxing, but close enough to make it accessible. Rent bikes and mopeds for a good price. Helped us organise rock climbing and a cookery lesson. Oliver, from England ~ 19th Mar 2012

Really really wonderful hostel. They arranged a discounted rock climbing trip for me (way cheaper than had I gone in town), and it was super easy to rent bikes/flashlights, etc.Everybody was very friendly. There was a lunar eclipse while we were there and the staff bought a cake for all of us to eat while watching it.The rooms are clean & big.Good food in the cafe.Only downside is that it is about 15 minutes by bike out of town.Plus is that it is peaceful - town gets rowdy. Brilliant place, fantastic staff who are very friendly and will do anything for you. The food from the restaurant was also fantastic and very cheap. Great location for being out of the busy town but great for bike riding, hiring scooters and exploring the countryside. Would love to go back one day. Rachel, from England ~ 22nd Dec 2011

We were staying in the Village Retreat part of the hostel, but the rooms were amazing value. Staff were genuinely very friendly & helpful. Room was lovely, best we in China by far. Location was out of town, but a welcome relief from bustle, with lovely walk into centre. Recommend breakfast! Lisa Marie, from England ~ 25th Nov 2011

This is more like a little B&B than a hostel. It is cute and well kept. But, it is about a 25min walk from town. (Not the 15 they claim)It is about 10min by bike. But the walk/bike ride is beautiful (it runs along the river) and very safe. The path is really a small road and it is impossible to get lost. But you will need a flashlight at night because the trail is not lit. (the hostel will provide a flashlight if you ask) If you are looking to get away from the hustle and bustle, stay here.It is b Timothy, from USA ~ 21st Nov 2011

Trippers Carpe Diem was a great part of my Yangshuo experience (though with all the activities Yangshuo offers, I had very little time to spend indoors). ShiBanQiao village just behind the mountain, reachable with a 15-20 minute riverside walk, was far enough to discover a bit of rural China. Staff was very nice and helpful. The hostel is nicely designed and has a terrace facing hills. My dorm room was very comfortable, and there was a well working, free wi-fi. The only small drawback was gettin
