Our double room had been given away due to late arrival but room was found. The nightclub next door was a bit noisy but did't keep us awake. The shower in the tiny toilet was a bit of a squeeze.But VFM and convenient location outweighed these small irritations. Annie, from England ~ 12th Apr 2012

Nice hostel, cheap and in fairly good location. Not easy to find because there's no sign showing tropic inn! staff friendly and even made me breakfast for 6am! Recommended! Alexander, from England ~ 10th Aug 2011

One reviewer is right: Tropic Inn is away from the city of Colombo it is located in Bambalapitiya between Galle Road and De Mel Mawatha. The rooms are basic, but clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Heinz, from Germany ~ 9th Oct 2011

Beware of airport pickup, as they won't tell you it's required to prepay until you're stranded at the airport at 2 am. The staff is always accomodating and have solid information, though, and the location isn't bad. Mt. Lavinia itself is only kind of close to Colombo, but the hostel is only down the street from some hotels with private pools, the beach, the train station, (which will take you into Fort station), and a main road close to two pubs and local eateries.
